About the region

The Napa Valley is only roughly three miles wide and 40 miles long, but it is home to more than 150 different soil types and 16 recognized American Viticultural Areas (AVAs), and the region’s reputation is undoubtedly staked on Cabernet Sauvignon. Wines from the Napa Valley are, at their best, opulent, exuberant and well structured affairs that offer cellaring potential on par with the finest Bordeaux.

The Sonoma AVA is a much more significant producer of grapes than the Napa Valley, with more than 60,000 acres planted to vines. With cooler air and soil temperatures than those of its more famous eastern neighbor it is also a region much better suited to Burgundian varietals such as Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Both Valleys are well known for their hospitality and the region is considered to be the culinary epicenter of the nation, with more Michelin stars per capita than any destination outside of France.
